Honest Accounts
from the Water
Over 1,800 guests have sailed with ooceandi since 2015. Here are some of the things they've said — the good and the forthright.

Recent accounts across all three tours — written by guests, not written by us.
"The morning tour was exactly what I needed — no rushing, no loud commentary. We sat with coffee and watched the container ships pass. My husband asked the captain a question about one of the fishing vessels and ended up having a fifteen-minute conversation about the strait's history. That kind of thing doesn't happen on most tours."
"Mersing day sail with my family — three kids aged 8 to 14. The deckhand Fadzli was brilliant with them at the snorkel stops. The reef was in better condition than anything we'd seen in years. Lunch was genuinely good; the barramundi wasn't something we expected to be discussing on the drive home, but it was."
"The overnight passage was something I'll remember for a long time. The Singapore Strait at night — with those lights on the horizon and the sheer size of the vessels passing — is a proper spectacle. The anchorage was totally still. Dinner was excellent. Only slight note: the cabin is compact, which is the nature of the boat rather than a complaint."
"I've done the morning tour twice — once alone, once with friends visiting from Penang. Both times the route was slightly different based on conditions, which I appreciated. The captain explained why without being asked. It's a small thing but it shows the kind of thought that goes into how they run things."
"We did the island day sail for a work team outing — eight of us. Siti was very helpful in coordinating the booking and making sure dietary requirements were covered (we had two vegetarians and one halal). On the day, everything ran without any awkwardness. The beach stop in the afternoon was a surprise highlight."
"The overnight tour was my partner's birthday present to me — we're both sailors and wanted something with actual maritime substance, not a sunset cruise. The Singapore Strait passage delivered. The wine pairing at dinner was unexpectedly considered. My one note: the return leg felt slightly rushed compared to the outward journey, but that may have been a timing thing."

A Family Looking for Something Beyond a Ferry Trip
The Lim family had visited Mersing before by public ferry and found it crowded and tightly scheduled. They wanted open water access to the islands without the experience of being herded between stops with fifty other passengers.
ooceandi ran the Mersing Islands Day Sail for the family of four — two adults, two teenagers. The captain chose snorkel sites based on visibility that morning. Lunch at anchor, beach stop on a quiet island the family had entirely to themselves for 90 minutes.
"The kids are still talking about the second snorkel stop. The reef was in a condition that none of us expected given where we are. The whole day felt genuinely private."
A Couple Wanting a Sailing Experience, Not a Scenic Ride
Both guests had sailing backgrounds and were sceptical of packaged tours. They wanted an overnight passage with real maritime content — actual navigation through busy waters, not a slow meander in a marina.
The Southern Waters Overnight Passage through the Singapore Strait. The captain spent time talking them through the traffic separation scheme and the vessel identification process using the AIS. Dinner at anchor in the Riau Strait, morning swim in open water.
"We've sailed a lot and we were prepared to be underwhelmed. We weren't. The Singapore Strait transit at night is something special, and having a captain who could discuss the navigation in technical terms made it considerably more interesting."
A Work Group That Needed Something Low-Maintenance
A company from Melaka wanted an end-of-year team activity. They had mixed dietary requirements and mixed enthusiasm for outdoor activities. The operations team needed something that would work for everyone without complex logistics.
Full group of eight on the Day Sail. Dietary requirements confirmed and accommodated beforehand. The format — open boat, no schedule pressure, optional snorkeling — worked for both the enthusiastic and the more relaxed members of the group.
"Everyone had a good time, which is genuinely hard to achieve with a group this varied. The logistics were handled before we even arrived — I didn't have to think about anything on the day."
