A Company Built
on the Water
ooceandi was founded to give people a different kind of access to the sea — unhurried, well-considered, and guided by genuine maritime experience.
Back to HomeTen Years on Malaysian Waters
ooceandi was started in 2015 by Azlan Ibrahim, a former marine engineer who spent his working life on cargo vessels crossing the Malacca Strait. After two decades at sea, he wanted to create a company that put the experience of being on the water — rather than the destination — at the centre of things. The name ooceandi draws on the Malay word for sea, echoing a connection to place that sits at the heart of everything we do.
We operate out of Johor Bahru, one of Malaysia's most strategically placed coastal cities, with direct access to the Johor Strait, the Singapore Strait, and the Mersing archipelago. These waters offer a remarkable variety: busy commercial shipping lanes, quiet fishing channels, fringing coral reefs, and empty island beaches — all within a day's sailing.
Our tours are deliberately small. No more than eight guests per departure. The motivation isn't simply commercial — it's because we believe the quality of a day on the water changes when a boat feels full. We'd rather run more frequent, smaller departures than pack every trip to capacity.
Our Mission
To offer thoughtful, well-run yacht tours that connect people with Malaysian maritime culture, coastal landscapes, and the quiet pleasure of time on the sea — without pressure or pretence.
Our Values
- Restraint over excess — less guests, better experience
- Safety first, schedule second — conditions lead our decisions
- Honest communication — no surprises in what's included or how things work
- Respect for the sea — responsible navigation and minimal environmental footprint
People Behind the Journey
Small team, deep experience. Everyone on board has a reason to be there.
Azlan Ibrahim
Former marine engineer with 22 years of open-water experience. Holds a Master (Inland Waters) certificate from Marine Department Malaysia. Knows the Johor Strait the way most people know their own street.
Siti Rahimah
Coordinates tour bookings, guest communications, and day-of logistics. Background in hospitality. Responsible for the careful attention to detail that guests notice — and for everything that quietly ensures nothing goes wrong.
Fadzli Kamaruzaman
Certified PADI divemaster and experienced deckhand. Leads snorkeling stops on the Mersing Islands Day Sail and assists the captain on longer passages. Grew up fishing these waters with his family.
How We Operate
Protocols that run quietly in the background so every guest can simply enjoy their time on the water.
Vessel Maintenance
All vessels undergo quarterly maintenance inspections and hold current certificates from the Marine Department Malaysia. Engines, navigation systems, and safety equipment are checked before every departure.
Safety Equipment
Life jackets, flares, EPIRBs, and first aid kits are maintained to SOLAS standards. All guests receive a safety briefing and are fitted with appropriate personal flotation devices before leaving the dock.
Licensed & Insured
ooceandi holds a valid Tourist Vessel Operating Licence issued by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia. Full third-party and passenger liability insurance is maintained throughout the operating year.
Weather Monitoring
We use Malaysian Meteorological Department forecasts and real-time marine condition data before every departure. Tours are postponed when conditions fall outside safe parameters — no exceptions made for commercial reasons.
Environmental Responsibility
Anchoring at reef sites follows Marine Parks Malaysia guidelines. No waste is discharged at sea. Snorkeling briefings include reef etiquette to protect the coral systems guests visit.
Guest Data Privacy
Contact and booking information is collected only for operational purposes and is never shared with third parties outside of booking management. Full details in our Privacy Policy.
Maritime Knowledge Built on Malaysian Waters
The Johor Strait is one of Southeast Asia's most navigated waterways — connecting the South China Sea with the Malacca Strait, flanked by the industrial and residential coastlines of two countries. Sailing it offers a perspective that is simply not available from land or from a commercial ferry. ooceandi's tours treat the strait as a subject of genuine interest: the shipping patterns, the fishing communities, the mangrove ecosystems along the Malaysian shore.
The Mersing archipelago sits further east along the Johor coast, its islands scattered across waters that shift from green nearshore to deep blue at the reef edges. The coral systems here are part of what remains of the reefs that stretch along Malaysia's east coast toward the Perhentian Islands and Tioman. Access by private yacht allows anchoring away from ferry traffic and spending time at sites that remain in relatively good condition.
Overnight passage into the Riau Strait offers a different kind of experience entirely — the Singapore Strait at night, with its continuous movement of commercial vessels, is a remarkable maritime spectacle. The passage requires a capable crew and a well-found vessel. It is not something to be undertaken lightly, and we don't treat it as such.
